Book Corners
Contributor Agreement
Version 1.0 · Effective date: 5 August 2026
This is the current published version. The version-specific URL is permanent.
This Contributor Agreement sets out the rights a contributor grants to Book Corners when submitting public bookcase catalogue information or images. It is a licensing document, not a promise that every contribution will be published, exported, or sent to another project.
1. What this agreement covers
“Data” means the factual and catalogue information you submit about a public bookcase, such as its location, address, name, opening details, description, capacity, accessibility, operating information, and other fields requested by Book Corners. “Images” means photographs or other image files that you submit with a catalogue entry or as a community image.
This agreement covers Data and Images you submit to Book Corners. It does not cover your account credentials, email address, private contact details, reports, comments, moderation records, or information submitted by somebody else. It does not grant rights in an image or other material that you were not authorized to submit.
Unless a contribution is expressly excluded from an acceptance record, this grant can cover contributions attributable to you that were submitted before or after you accepted this version. Book Corners may identify prior contributions in its records when administering this agreement.
2. Data and database rights
To the extent that your Data is protected by copyright, database rights, or another applicable right, you grant Book Corners a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, perpetual and irrevocable licence, with the right to sublicense, to host, reproduce, publish, adapt, arrange, extract, reuse, communicate, and distribute that Data as part of the Book Corners catalogue or another database. The licence includes permission to make the Data available under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0 or a compatible licence.
Some Data may be purely factual and may not be protected by copyright or database rights. This agreement records your permission to use it nevertheless and does not claim rights that the law does not provide.
Book Corners may combine your Data with data from OpenStreetMap and other sources. Reusers must follow the terms of the licence attached to the database they receive, including its attribution, notice, and share-alike requirements.
3. Image licence: CC BY-SA 4.0
You grant the copyright and related rights in your Images under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International licence (CC BY-SA 4.0). This is a specific licence selection, not a reference to an unspecified “free” or “open” licence.
CC BY-SA 4.0 permits others to copy, share, and adapt an Image, provided that they give appropriate credit, link to the licence, indicate changes, and license adaptations under the same licence where required. The complete licence text controls; this summary does not replace it.
Book Corners may display, resize, crop, optimize, create thumbnails from, and distribute covered Images as part of the service and its public catalogue. An Image from an importer, a third-party source, or an author who has not granted these rights is not covered merely because it is visible on Book Corners.
4. Attribution and reuse
When attribution is required, reusers should credit Book Corners, the OpenStreetMap contributors where OSM data is included, and the contributor name or attribution information supplied with the relevant Image or Data when reasonably available. Reusers should link to the applicable ODbL or CC BY-SA 4.0 licence and preserve required notices.
Book Corners may publish a reasonable attribution name, an attribution URL, or an anonymous credit according to the information available for the contribution. Attribution does not imply endorsement by Book Corners or the contributor.
5. Possible OpenStreetMap reuse
This agreement gives Book Corners permission to make eligible Data available for possible reuse by OpenStreetMap or another ODbL-compatible project. It does not require Book Corners to upload, synchronise, or otherwise contribute any Data to OpenStreetMap.
No submission, checkbox, acceptance, export, or account action automatically creates an OpenStreetMap edit or guarantees that an edit will happen. Any future reuse would be subject to the receiving project’s terms, policies, review, attribution, and contributor requirements.
6. Your confirmations
By accepting this agreement, you confirm that:
- you are old enough and legally able to grant these rights;
- you own or have obtained all permissions needed for the Data and Images you submit;
- your submission does not knowingly infringe another person’s rights or disclose private information without permission; and
- you will identify relevant third-party restrictions or attribution requirements when Book Corners asks for them.
If you discover that a contribution is not covered by these permissions, contact Book Corners promptly so that it can be reviewed. This agreement does not prevent Book Corners from removing or restricting content for legal, privacy, safety, moderation, or technical reasons.
7. Account deletion and withdrawal
Deleting your Book Corners account does not revoke, terminate, or limit a licence already granted for covered Data or Images. Approved public contributions and lawful copies or adaptations made under the applicable licence may remain available after account deletion.
Book Corners may unlink your account identifier from public contributions and delete personal account data in accordance with its Privacy Policy. Account deletion does not grant rights to content that was never covered by this agreement, and it does not prevent a request to review content that is unlawful, inaccurate, or incorrectly attributed.
8. Agreement versions and changes
This page is version 1.0. Book Corners may publish a later version when its licensing policy changes. A later version will have its own version identifier, effective date, language URLs, and permanent public copy.
A later version does not silently replace the version you accepted. Future acceptance flows will identify the exact version accepted, and a new version will require a new explicit acceptance where Book Corners requires it. Rights already granted under an earlier version remain governed by that version unless you separately agree otherwise.
9. Acceptance is explicit
Reading this page, visiting its URL, submitting a contribution, or keeping an account does not by itself record acceptance. Acceptance must be an intentional action in a Book Corners acceptance flow that identifies this agreement version and records the time and channel.
The official licence texts linked above control the legal terms of ODbL 1.0 and CC BY-SA 4.0. If you have questions about your rights, obtain independent legal advice before accepting.
